Vasectomy: procedure and recovery

Line drawing illustrating a vasectomy

A vasectomy is a form of birth control. It is a common surgical procedure performed on male patients to cut or seal the tubes that carry sperm. The aim is to prevent male patients from fathering children in the future. Although it is rare for the tubes that carry sperm to re-join, it does occur in one in 2,000 cases. A vasectomy operation can take as little as 15 minutes to complete.
